Our Philanthropies
Philanthropy is very important at the Gamma Rho Chapter of Sigma Tau Gamma. It is an outward expression of our dedication to the Principles of Value and Benefit.
This is a Sigma Tau Gamma nationally founded philanthropy event where individual chapters of the fraternity hold fund raisers or book drives to raise books for underprivileged children. This community service project is one way Sigma Tau Gamma, Gamma Rho Chapter upholds the key principles that this fraternity was founded on - learning and benefit. Our chapter will either purchase or get donations for books to give to our national headquarters for participation in this program.
"BACCHUS" is an acronym for Boosting Alcohol Consciousness Concerning the Health of University Students. The BACCHUS Network is a university and community based network focusing on comprehensive health and safety initiatives. It is the mission of this non-profit organization to actively promote student and young adult based, campus and community-wide leadership on healthy and safe lifestyle decisions concerning alcohol abuse, tobacco use, illegal drug use, unhealthy sexual practices and other high-risk behaviors.
Students of all ages are faced with making personal decisions about health and safety. Developing positive decision-making skills impacts student life and prepares students to enter the real world and the greater community to promote healthy and safe lifestyles. BACCHUS promotes respect for state laws and support for campus policies that address high-risk behaviors that compromise health and safety.
The BACCHUS philosophy is that students can play a uniquely effective role - unmatched by professional educators - in encouraging their peers to consider, talk honestly about and develop responsible habits and attitudes toward high-risk health and safety issues.
Our chapter maintains this program by implementing these measures to ensure our young members do not fall under the dark influences of substance abuse.
The Elementary Literacy Program is a program that teaches literacy and the fun of reading to Elementary age kids within the Lawton area. Each semester, members of the Gamma Rho Chapter volunteer to go to local elementary schools and read to kids. The program is very rewarding and the members who have done it had a great time and will continue supporting this philanthropy.
